Challenge Cup Betting: Briers the match winner?

“I will be looking to keep the draw onside and backing a drop goal during the 80 minutes is worth a small interest at [4.5].”

We’ve reached the quarter-final stage of this season’s Challenge Cup and the opening live game on Saturday would be fitting of the final itself, writes Stuart Jones.

Warrington and Wigan are undoubtedly the two form sides in Super League at present and it’s not surprising that the layers are struggling to

I would have asked Warrington to concede four points on the handicap purely because they have the benefit of playing at home, but a difference of opinion of two points doesn’t constitute a wager.

Warrington welcomed back Lee Briers in London last week but Adrian Morley is struggling to be fit for the weekend. His absence would undoubtedly be a blow to the Wolves, but Gareth Carvell and Paul Wood have been excellent in recent weeks.

Wigan, on the other hand, have had the luxury of being able to rotate their squad during a pretty busy period for them, the capture of Ben Cross and the return of Gareth Hock adding further strength in depth to an already excellent squad.

As is often the case in big games like this, I will be looking to keep the draw onside from the off, and with the expectation of a tight game, backing a drop goal during the 80 minutes looks worthy of a small interest at [4.5]. We have seen that Warrington will try to take the one on offer in recent weeks, and though unsuccessful against the Giants, the return of drop goal specialist Lee Briers is sure to improve their strike rate.

A rematch between

I got Hull badly wrong last week at Headingley. They were totally devoid of ideas with ball in hand, their kicking game was abysmal and they didn’t look like they would have scored if the game had lasted a week.

I’m hoping last week was a blip, though, as I still can’t bring myself to back Leeds at [1.7] away from Headingley. If Craig Fitzgibbon is declared fit, I will be persevering with Hull. Richard Agar will surely have read the riot act to his men after such a tame performance, and with so much at stake, and in front of their home fans, Hull really ought to better last week’s effort by a long way.

Their attack should be an area in which Agar has focused on in training this week and he must have realised that they need to make better use of Willie Manu and Tom Briscoe, two players that really stand out as attacking threats in Hull colours. Leeds have shown they are vulnerable on enough occasions this season for Hull to believe they have the beating of them at the KC Stadium, and at the prices, I just have to side with the home team again.
