Super League Betting: Wolves to tear into Cas

“As hit and miss as they are, it really is very difficult to pick many weak links within the Warrington side.”

Stuart Jones thinks Castleford are in for a painful trip to Warrington on Friday evening while Huddersfield should have too much for St Helens

Normal service resumes in Super League this week and Sky have picked a couple of fascinating games to show live. Castleford get a chance to prove they are genuine regular season contenders when they take on Warrington at the Halliwell Jones on Friday, and a tight affair looks on the cards as Huddersfield face St Helens at the Galpharm the following evening.

Warrington and Castleford practically had a bye in the Challenge Cup at the weekend, so both sides should come into this fixture pretty fresh. The Wolves have been getting players back from injury in recent rounds, notably Matt King, whilst Castleford’s pretty thin squad is just beginning to look stretched.

I personally think Castleford are flattered by their current position. Victory over Huddersfield back in February was the only time they have beaten a team in the top six this season, and their more recent form (ignoring Rochdale) suggests they are going off the boil.

As hit and miss as they are, it really is very difficult to pick many weak links within the Warrington side, especially now that Matt King has replaced Chris Riley on the wing. The forwards are a match for anyone, whilst the creative influences of Michael Monaghan and Briers always pose a threat.

Warrington conceding 16 points on the handicap looks a solid bet @ [1.91] with Castleford having injury concerns hanging over a couple of key players.

It’s not hard to imagine Huddersfield and St Helens being a real war of attrition and it could go right down to the wire. I will certainly be being keeping the draw on side in this one.

Saints coach Royce Simmons has done an excellent job of keeping his side towards the top of the table given the dreadful luck they have had with injuries.

Injuries to Leon Pryce, Lee Gaskell and Jonny Lomax meant that Kyle Eastmond‘s spell in the cold came to an end at Hull a fortnight ago and the controversial scrum-half hardly made an impressive return. A try assist in the second half was not enough to detract from what was a pretty laboured effort. The Giants made hard work of overcoming Batley last weekend but I’m happy to put that down to complacency as much as anything. Nathan Brown’s decision to scrap his rotation policy suggests he believes that may well be the case, too.

With a first-choice thirteen selected I expect the Giants to just edge the forwards battle and make home advantage pay.
