Report: Mobile gambling could net $18.5 million for Vegas
A gambling advocate in Las Vegas says that $18.5 of tax revenue could be collected if patrons were permitted to play card and slot machine games on mobile devices from their hotel rooms. Lee Amaitis, who is president of Cantor Gambling, told the Senate Judiciarymittee that the Las Vegas population “has moved to an on-demand, do-it-now, instant-gratification society” on Monday and that surveys “showed that the single most-often requested location to utilize our mobile gaming offerings were and are within their hotel rooms.” Vegas now allows horse and sports betting off premises and a number of hotels now permit mobile gambling in public places within the hotel grounds. One of the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s main concern about expanding mobile gambling is underage gambling. However, Amaitis says that fewer than seven percent of Las Vegas visitors bring their children with them and that PIN numbers could be issued to guests as a precaution.
