Tour de France outright odds move following Stage 4
While Australia’s Cadel Evans had enough in the tank to hold off defending champion Alberto Contador in the first Tour climb in Stage 4, oddsmakers saw enough from the Spaniard to adjust their outright odds.
Contador went into the stage as the second-favorite to Andy Schlek. Contador was at +135 to Schelk’s +125, but after Contador nearly won Stage 4, the books moved him to -105. “I wanted to see how my rivals were, to see if I could take some time off them,” Contador told reporters “Getting the stage win, when I was so close, would have been a great joy.”Schelk now has dropped back to +165 while Evans now sits at +600. After that, there’s a huge gap in the odds until Bradley Wiggins checks in at +2800. Thor Hushovd still holds the overall lead.
