Chile topped Group C with seven points, beating Mexico and Peru and drawing with Uruguay. In their last group game against Peru, they lost Jean Beausejour to a red card and he will not play any part in this quarterfinal tie.

The Venezuelans have reached the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time on foreign soil.
