Chile topped Group C with seven points, beating Mexico and Peru and drawing with Uruguay. In their last group game against Peru, they lost Jean Beausejour to a red card and he will not play any part in this quarterfinal tie.
Matias Fernandez is unlikely to play and there are also injury doubts over Luis Jimenez and Gonzalo Jara. Chile form- last five games- most recent first- Chile goalscorers in brackets
Chile 1-0 Peru ( Own goal) Uruguay 1-1 Chile ( Sanchez) Chile 2-1 Mexico ( Paredes, Vidal) Paraguay 0-0 Chile Chile 4-0 Estonia ( Suarez, Ponce, Suazo, Sanchez)
The Venezuelans have reached the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time on foreign soil. They turned in some very impressive performances in Group B, the highlight of which was their last gasp 3-3 draw against Paraguay. Only goal difference prevented the Vinotinto from topping the group.
Venezuela have never reached the semifinals of the tournament. On paper, Chile have the easiest draw in the quarters, but they will be wary of the Venezuelans, who held them to a 2-2 draw not too long ago and whose fortunes seem to have dramatically changed with Cesar Farias at the helm.
