The Argentinean will now switch focus to Flushing Meadows for Augusts US Open, where he will look to repeat his heroics from the 2009 triumph in the years final Grand Slam.

Del Potro had shown the sort of form he was in before his long-term injury problems ruled him out of most of the 2010 season, becoming the first player in this tournament to take a set off the Spanish superstar. Nadal showed the sort of spirit and quality needed to be a champion though, coming through to claim the win and earn a quarter-final tie against American Mardy Fish on Wednesday. Those looking at the US Open specials will be wondering if he can push on.

There is a slight worry over the Spaniards fitness after suffering a foot injury though, with Nadal himself admitting he is concerned over whether he can continue in the tournament but he will still be one of the top US Open tips.

There is a slight worry over the Argentinean however as he heads into his preparations for the US Open later this summer, with the 22-year-old seemingly suffering a recurrence of the hip injury that had niggled him for the past few months.
