Hendry still hungry

Stephen Hendrys decision to continue his career will be put to the test this season. The seven-time world champion has struggled with his form for much of the past few seasons, prompting doubts over his long-term future in the game. That appeared to be the way things were going as the Scot suffered a humbling 13-4 defeat to Mark Selby at the World Championships last month.

The 42-year old refused to throw the towel in on his sparkling career though, maintaining he will be back at the Crucible next season as well as the other tournaments. Hendry put his decision down to his continued love of the game, which is still very much there despite a disappointing few years. Anyone making snooker bets should remember this.

I still love playing the game. I want the chance to come back here (the Crucible), he said.

Im going to play all the tournaments (next season). Theres no point being half-hearted.

There was a worry that Hendrys place in the top-16 would be in danger but Stuart Binghams second round defeat at the Crucible extended the Scots place among the games elite, which now stands at 23 straight years. Without a ranking event title in over five years, the 42-year old will be determined he can try and rediscover some of his form before having to hang up his bow-tie. One of the best players ever to pick up a snooker cue certainly deserves to be remembered as the quality player he has been.
