Home fans will have little to cheer at the US Open

The home fans at Flushing Meadows are more likely to have success to cheer on in the womens draw with the Williams sisters, but can any of the men really win the US Open?

Serena and Venus will be the main focus in the womens side and will look to rival the likes of Kim Clijsters and Caroline Wozniacki to win the US Open.

In the mens draw, Mardy Fish will be the main hope for a home winner and he has shown some form by successfully defending his Atlanta Tennis Championships title last week. However, he probably wont attract many US Open tennis bets.

For many years Andy Roddick was the darling of the US tennis fans but his form has waned in recent years and now Fish is the top American in the ATP rankings, sitting as the world number nine.

The 29-year-olds best US Open performance to date was reaching the quarter-finals in 2008 but he is looking to improve his game this year and will be hoping for an improved performance at Flushing Meadows.

I want to stay in the top 10 for as long as I can and keep bettering my career-high ranking and do things Ive never done before, he said.

Fish, Roddick and fellow American John Isner will battle hard at the US Open but tennis fans will know Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are likely to be the men to beat at Flushing Meadow. Those placing a US Open bet should remember this.

Long gone are the days when the New York fans could cheer their home favourites to glory at the US Open, with the Europeans now firmly in control of the Grand Slams.
