Khan won’t be rushed back
India say Zaheer Khan will not be risked unnecessarily ahead of the second Test against England after suffering a hamstring injury at Lords.
The paceman, who was tipped to be one of the stars of the series, pulled up in the first innings in London and did not play any further part in the match as England sealed a 196-run victory. Those following the Betfair cricket betting may have been surprised by the size of the win.
The second match of the four Test series starts on Friday at Trent Bridge meaning Khan only has a few days to recover. Indian skipper will be desperate for the bowler to recover after a disappointing performance throughout the first test. The Indians looked rather blunt in the first test and their attack appeared to be unimaginative as England made an impressive first innings total of 474 for 8 in the first innings. The second innings was no better and England declared on 296-6 before Englands own attack ripped through the Indian batsmen.
The shortage even forced wicketkeeper Dhoni to bowl a few overs as the Indians struggled to overcome Englands defence but the captain insists that Zaheer will not be rushed back and will only play is he deemed fully fit. Those following the in-play betting at Betfair should bear this in mind.
We have three days but I am not 100% sure if we will play him or not, said Dhoni.
It is a long series and we dont want to risk any individual if he is only 90% fit as that only increases the chances of him getting injured further.
