Millwall v Bristol City Preview
At the start of the season Bristol City were the side tipped to push for the top six, while newly promoted Millwall were expected to struggle. However, for much of the campaign City have been struggling in the bottom half and as we approach this fixture, Millwall are sat on the brink of the play offs.
Millwall are another side in the division who have enjoyed an absolutely fine campaign and it’s not yet over for Kenny Jackett’s men, who have every chance of netting a playoff place. The New Den outfit are currently sat in 7th place but with six games left and four points separating them from 6th, they still have a very good opportunity to achieve a second successive promotion. The Lions are coming off the back of a superb result after beating 6th place Leeds 3-2 and that should provide Jackett’s men with plenty of confidence as we approach the season finale. The club haven’t lost since the start of the month and after collecting thirteen points from a possible fifteen, they are certainly one of the form clubs of the division at the moment.
Bristol City are another side who have enjoyed some fine form over the past month although it looks as though their season is definitely over now. Keith Millen’s men currently sit in 15th position and having accumulated fifty three points, they seem safe from relegation and the playoffs seem a distant dream. Up until their last game, the Robins had actually won six from seven fixtures but they were comfortably beaten at the weekend, as Barnsley rolled to a 4-2 victory over them. However, Millen has struggled to convince supporters that he is the right man for the job throughout the campaign and while they don’t need the points in one respect, he could do with some extra ones just to get some extra support from the Ashton Gate faithful.
Millwall approach this encounter with mixed news, with Darren Purse remaining on the treatment table but Alan Dunne becoming available. Dunne could return to the starting eleven after completing a ban, while Purse’s absence is due to a calf injury. It’s all positive for the visitors however as Keith Millen has two extra options. After recovering from an ankle injury, Jon Stead could be brought into the starting eleven while Cole Skuse is also back in contention after recovering from a toe problem.
Both of these teams approach this game with some very good form behind them in recent weeks but with Millwall holding the home advantage, we think they could prosper here. In a tight fixture, our prediction will be a 2-1 win for the Lions.
