Open comes too soon for Tiger

The Open has come too soon for former Tiger Woods with the former world number-one forced to pull out of the years second major with his troublesome knee injury. The 35-year old sustained a recurrence of knee and Achilles problems during the Players Championship in May, forcing him to miss last months US Open and now the Open in Sandwich this month.

There had been hope that Woods would have recovered enough in time to attempt to pick up his fourth Open title, but the 14-time major winner has taken medical advice and been forced to admit defeat in his battle to make this months tournament. However, the British Open betting odds golf suggested he was unlikely to challenge even if fully fit.

Tiger was defiant though, in his belief that he will still come back from his troubles over recent years.

Unfortunately, Ive been advised that I should not play in the British Open. As I stated at the AT&T National, I am only going to come back when Im 100% ready. I do not want to risk further injury, he said.

I think my best years are still ahead of me and Im very confident and optimistic about the future.

This will be the second Open Championship in four years that Tiger has been forced to miss with injury. The British Open specials suggest there are plenty of players more than capable of filling his boots.

British fans will certainly be hoping they get to see a fit again Tiger once again challenging to win the tournament from next season. Golf needs a 100% fit Tiger Woods and the sport is worse off without the greatest ever player competing.
