Paraguay were battered for 120 minutes by Brazil in their quarterfinal against Mano Menezes side. However their goalkeeper skipper Justo Villar and his defence held firm against Brazils famed attacking players. The game eventually went to penalties where Brazil lost their nerve and missed all four of their penalties. Edgar Barreto missed his for Paraguay but Marcelo Estigarribia and Cristian Riveros got theirs right to give the Albirroja a 2-0 win.
